Just A Few Things That Make Us Different From The Rest
-
The author owns and remains in control of their work. (You never sign your rights away with Tovim Press.)
-
We offer as little or as much help as you need. (You don’t have to pay an exorbitant amount of money just to get one book published.)
-
Authors can buy their own books at cost with no order limits. (You are not forced to buy a certain number of books at a time, or pay retail prices for them.)
-
We automatically offer worldwide distribution and pay standard royalties to our published authors. (We make sure your book is available globally, not just in a few limited places.)
-
We make high-quality books that last a lifetime. Not only do we publish paperback and ebooks, but we specialize in durable hardcover books.
-
Contracts are “Non-exclusive”, meaning you are free to end the contract and publish with someone else. (Some publishers obligate you to stay with them for at least a year.)

3. Submit Files and Info
In your account, you can submit your manuscript, graphics, price, and all of the pertinent information about your book. If you are having us do some or all of the elements for you, there will be constant contact back and forth to ensure your book is the way you want it to be. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at any stage.
4. File Review Process
There is a first-time set-up fee for each book submission, as required by our printer. Once you submit your files, we will review them to ensure they meet our printer’s specs. If there are any issues with your files, we will contact you as soon as we can, explaining what the problem is and how it may be solved. Once your book interior is done,, you will receive a proof pdf copy for your review and approval.
5. Final Approval
Once you have approved the pdf, if there are no corrections needed, you should order a physical proof copy. If there are still needed corrections after this, the printer charges a revision fee, because revised files are like a whole new book to the printer. This is why it is so important to check over your work carefully before final submission.
6. Time to Launch
Once you are satisfied and your book meets your approval, choose the date of your launch, and you are ready to sell your book! Send a copy or two out for review ahead of time so you can add it to your description that goes online, to booksellers, in Sell Sheets and Press Releases. Tovim Press makes your book available to our global network of over 40,000 retail booksellers and libraries, including places like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
7. Marketing Your Book
It is up to the author to do most of their book promotion. However, Tovim Press can provide many tools to help, such as custom domain websites, promotional materials like postcards, bookmarks, and posters, sell sheets, and line you up with professional book reviews. All authors who purchase an ISBN with us are assured of getting listed in the global “Books in Print”, the bibliographic database for libraries, publishers, and retailers around the world.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
* What type of books do you make?
We encourage hardcover books, because they last longer and more durable over time. We offer several cover types, case laminate in glossy or matte finish, blue or gray cloth cover with gold stamping on the spine (with or without dust jackets). We also offer paperbacks, and can do them in perfect bound for 18 pages or more, and saddle-stitch for 4-48 pages. We can do e-Books as well.
* Do I have any control over my cover design?
You certainly do. Unlike many companies, we believe the author knows their book the best. We may offer suggestions and input, but you decide on the final cover design. You can design it yourself, or give us suggestions and samples and we can do it for you to make sure it meets the printer's precise specifications. Keep in mind that the cover is essentially an advertisement for your book, and people do judge a book by its cover.
* Can I do my whole book project myself?
Definitely. That is why we offer individual products and services from our A la Carte options. You can pick and choose what you need or want us to do. We try to price our services as reasonably as possible to remain competitive.
We do ask that if you do it yourself that you use our (free) book templates so the pages will meet our guidelines, and all graphics must be in 300 dpi.
* How much will it cost me to publish my book?
This depends on many variables including book trim size, cover type, paper, ink and especially the page count. "Do-it-Myself Jewish Authors" (DIMJAs) can have their books printed with a minimum of a one-time set-up fee and a Tovim Press ISBN if they do everything else themselves. That is a minimum of $164 total.
If you would like us to do some or all of your book, it also depends on the bundle you choose. You can get the Basic Bundle that includes all the bare-minimum items a book needs. Each additional service has a set amount, or you can choose a larger package that includes anything from copyediting to promotional websites. There are plenty of options to choose from. See our Store for pricing details.
An author may bypass the cost charged by bookstores and merely pay printing costs ("book cost") plus shipping and handling. The smallest paperback starts at about $1.34 to print. The smallest hardcover starts at $7.90. Shipping costs will vary.
* Do I still own the rights to my book after I submit it?
Yes. That is the beauty of Tovim Press. Even if we get your book copyright for you, it is still in your name only. We are the publisher, you are the owner. We have you sign a contract with us, so everything is legal and binding.
If for any reason you need to cancel a contract, it must be done in writing. You still own your book, but we cannot publish it.
* What do I get paid for my book?
You receive 50% royalties on your book for any copies purchased through retailers. (This does not apply to any books you buy at cost.) Royalties are determined by list price minus book manufacturing cost and the bookseller's discount price (industry standard of 55%). Use the Royalties Estimator to calculate how much you will get paid.
We do not pay "advancements" to any authors, no matter how famous they are. Here, everyone is treated alike.
* When will I receive a royalty payment?
If any of your books are bought through booksellers, royalties are paid every three months around the beginning of the month of each quarter. This cycle starts the next month after your book is available for sale. Royalties will be issued through PayPal or Stripe.
* How soon will I know if my work has been rejected?
We’re not in the business of rejecting books, we’re in the business of printing them! You do not have to wait three or more months after a submission only to find out you have been rejected. We welcome and encourage new authors, and do not believe publishing is limited to an elite few. As long as you follow the guidelines for our standards, your book is welcome here.
If for some reason your book is not a good fit for us, we will refer your work to another publisher.
* Do you accept book projects from any author?
We accept any and all submissions as long as they conform to our standards for Jewish books. See our Terms and Conditions.
* How much does it cost to set up a book?
If you already have your copyright and ISBN, there is a first-time $97 set-up fee for a new book. This includes a thorough checking over and adjustment to make sure it is print-ready.
Once the book title goes live, if the book needs corrections it must be resubmitted and the resubmission fee is $67. This is why it is so important to get it all correct the first time. If there are changes made, it is equivalent to a whole new book for our printer. Once a book is set up correctly, there is no additional set up fee and it is in the printer’s file system.
* How long does it take to set up a new book?
It depends on the Value Pack chosen. The better the proper formatting the quicker it can be set up. Some larger companies will take anywhere from several months to one year, we take a week to a month, depending on the project. If your book is finished and gone through Pre-Flight, it should only be a matter of hours before your book can be available for sale. (Although we strongly recommend that you order a proof copy to make sure everything has turned out okay.)
* How long will it take to print my book?
Printing times may vary depending on the type of book, but it should be ready in about 1-week. Typical manufacture time for paperbacks is 2-3 days, and hardcover 5-7 days. Shipping is variable, and averages usually about 1 week.
* What is your minimum order quantity?
Only one. We do Print-On-Demand (POD). Unlike other companies, we have no minimum order quantity. You don't have to buy 25 or 100 books, and then have the extras sitting around taking up space or gathering dust in your garage. No matter how few books you order at a time, you pay the same price per book. It is far more economical. Plus, instead of having them delivered to you and sending them out, you can have the books shipped directly wherever you like.
* How does Print-On-Demand compare to traditional publishing?
POD is very high-quality and accurate because it is all-digital. It is the latest in technology, and unless you want a specialized limited-edition art book with custom leather cover in an unusual size, POD is just as good as off-set press. Perhaps even better, because it costs far less to produce POD books, and there is no minimum or maximum to have to purchase. See our Publishing Comparison page.
* How quality are your books?
Even though we are Print-On-Demand, our book materials such as the paper and binding that go into them are very high-quality. Books are durable, well-made and done properly. Our manufacturer does not skimp on time putting books together. The process, especially for hardcovers, is not instant, as the laminate is applied and glues take a certain amount of time to dry. All of this ensures books of excellent quality.
* How consistent is the color of your printed books?
Some color differences may occur between print batches. Some batches could be darker than others depending on our printer’s ink supply. Although the color of printed books may vary slightly from copy to copy, it is usually barely noticeable unless you hold two books together from different batches. The quality of binding and print clarity will still be the same.
* Can you print a book in all-Hebrew text?
Although we specialize in English, we can print books in Hebrew as well. For books in all-Hebrew, they must be thoroughly proof-read before submission, and we take no responsibility for printing and formatting errors for books in Hebrew.
* Which book sizes do you offer?
See our Book Options page for trim sizes, bindings, cover types, paper and ink choices. We offer suggestions as to what sizes go with what type of book. If you want to quickly compare how much different options cost, use our Print Book Cost Calculator.
